The king leads Kovu out of Pride Rock and takes him out to a fire-ravaged section of the Pride Lands, still suffering from Scar's long-ago rule. Sometime after this, Scar's nephew, Simba, returned to the Pride Lands and defeated Scar. However, once Simba rose to the throne, he exiled Kovu and his pride to the Outlands, where Kovu's mother, Zira, raised him to resent the Pride Landers and, in particular, the royal family. After taunting Simba, Zira congratulates Kovu on a job well done. Later, at the Pride Rock, he and Kiara explain how Zira's pride and Simba's pride had merged into one.
